Next Series Preview

One of the best things about running as a sport is its relative simplicity: get from Point A to Point B in the least amount of time. I used to joke that the running coach's instructions were: 1) Run more. 2) Run faster. Training consists of three steps: 1) Set a reasonable goal. 2) Come up with a plan that will get you to that goal. 3) Follow the plan.

So, how have I reached nearly 1000 posts on the subject? And why aren't I doing so well, if it's really that simple?

As most people reading this blog haven't been reading for long (and others' eyes have glazed over long ago from the endless stream of minutiae), it's time to talk about training from the beginning and from the basics again. I'm training for very different races than most readers of this blog, but I think I can explain what I'm doing, and why, and give insights that can be applied to all runners competing at all distances.

First up: Setting Goals.

I like your three step training outline. From what I can tell, you have no problem with #2, but struggle at times with #1 and #3.

Looking forward to this new series!
