Flying Under Radar

Today would've been my mother's 87 birthday (and that makes Bruce Sprinsteen 61) and I was going to try to write something appropriate, but Mom would've wanted me to point out some accomplishments of others that might otherwise go unnoticed.

Chris Scotch just posted his Superior Sawtooth 100 race report. Check it out. He went from running almost nothing to finishing one of the hardest races that exist - in a very short time.

Nic Giebler won a marathon! He let his blog domain expire, but he's back on Blogger and the report's here. And check out the video of his son kicking him in the head, while you're at it.

Just noticed: the blog's hit counter's over 25000. As Sally Field said, "You like me, you really like me!"

Far be it from me to suggest that the kick in the head caused Dr. Nic to win that Marathon, so, instead of suggesting it, I'm going to outright say it:

That kick in the head is what made Dr. Nic win.

It is now our duty, as Nic's fellow runners and well-wishers, to kick Nic in the head HARD every time we see him so that he might win another marathon. And if he's running an ultra that particular weekend? Kick him in the nards.

No pain, no gain.

Hahahahahahaha!

Alternate comment:

Dr. Nic won a marathon? Well, ain't that a kick in the head!

@G: Mom was a big fan of the Minnesota Twins, who just cliched their division - how're those Phillies of yours doing?

Magic number = 4. Just swept the Braves, last night's game being a 1-hit, 1-0 shutout victory courtesy of Oswalt ("The other white Roy"), Madson and Lidge. Six games in front of the Braves now, but still haven't clinched so much as a playoff spot, much less the division!

22 and 4 since losing those 4 straight to the effin Astros, which happened when Ian and I were at sea, so there's your explanation for that.

See you at the World Series!

Totally with you in amazement and awe of Chris. I contemplated posting something about it as well.

Cool that you mention your mother's birthday.

I listened to Sleepyhead on my bike ride today (Passion Pit) and thought of how you had recommended it. It is STILL a great song.

The blog counter doesn't show all the love. Most of the time I read you through Google Reader and don't comment.

Invisible bloggy love, you has it. :)

Helen, blogs on Blogger appear to never disappear; I recently read one from an Australian ultrarunner, who appears to have died in 2005. Nic had a separate site and switched to Blogger.
