The point of the last post

The photo I'm using as a header was taken at the race this past weekend and was marked as being at Tettegouche, which was where I was stationed. I looked at the photo and thought "That jacket looks like mine and I think I was wearing that shirt. That must be me." I don't think other people have to do that, but I don't really know.

I have face blindness (prosopagnosia) and no visual memory. This means I should have no ability to look at a photo of a person and know who it is, yet I seem to be able to do it by remembering factually things that others remember as an image. In fact, I'm usually better than most at recognizing people when they're in disguise, because I look for details that others overlook. Yet, if we know each other, I won't recognize you by sight - at the race this past weekend, I had a lot of conversations with people that I only recognized through the context of the conversation.

So, what I wanted to know is: just how good are people at recognizing faces in general? Unfortunately, so far no one seems to want to play along.

I look at the photo and recognized you by the way you are standing - posture, ways that people move - are often how I recognize people, especially at a distance.

Oh my God. That is so funny. Just a month ago I was explaining to my mom and dad that I had prosopagnosia and all of the problems that has created for me! And they were like - "only you would know the name for that". But no - not only me! Should we start a club?

i think i have a very mild form of this as well. people oftensay: "i can't remember names but i never forget a face" absolutely does not resonate w me! i'll always remember that i met (for example) steve on the treadmill at the gym and all the biographical details but i am unlikely to recognize "steve" in a different context.

Wildknits, do I really stand like a potbellied man with back problems all the time?!
