Ides of March, St. Urho, St. Patrick...

Somehow, I managed to gloss over yesterday being Pi Day (March 14= 3.14), but today is the Ides of March, tomorrow St. Urho's Day (wear purple if you're Finnish) and Saturday's the day when non-Irish people do non-Irish things and non-Catholics celebrate the Catholic St. Patrick, who probably did more to preserve books in Europe during the dark ages than anyone else - for which he should be celebrated.

Sunday's the Human Race 8K, which at one time was the GBS Sports St. Patrick's Day 5 Mile on a point-to-point course ending at the state capitol, and where I set my personal best of 25:29 thirty years ago. I still enjoy being out there; though I can barely run at the moment, I may spectate.

And because no one really cares any more that Julius Casear was killed on the Ides of March, here's what the term reminds most people of (if anything):

I care that it's the Ides of March. Then again, I would so I guess that's not a big surprise.

@Xenia: Oh, right... sorta your field of expertise.

I may spectate.

You misspelled "expectorate". Because I assume you meant "spit".

Or maybe you meant "defecate" and 'twas I¹ who misspelled "shit".
____

¹ "'Twas I" is how St. Paddy would have said it.

I would be remiss if I didn't point out that these lyrics

Hey, well I'm the friendly stranger
In the black sedan
Oh won't you hop inside my car?
I got pictures, got candy, I am a lovable man

describe the very sort of character we warn our children about. "Call loudly for help," we tell them, "if you see someone like this."

Oddly enough, I sometimes think they might also be a partial description of SteveQ himself.

Just sayin' ... based on what I've spectated.

Hahahahahaha! Happy Ides!
