Just saw this: http://www.minnesotamonthly.com/media/Minnesota-Monthly/October-2010/Amazing-Racer/
Just makes you want to beat her in a race, doesn't it?
Well, she's going to have to drop down in distance a bit for me for that to happen. I'm thinking of doing an indoor mile on December 5th.
[Congrats on the good press, btw, Helen!]

Man, I wish my name was Helen.
That article was better written than a lot of crap you'd read in more prestigious national rags.
I especially loved this line: She’s got strong legs, a durable stomach, enormous mental fortitude, and relentless optimism—all requirements for races that can stretch from a few hours to more than 24.
Because I thought of you and wondered, Okay, if optimism's a requirement, explain Eyore Quick, if you please, Mr. Article Writer.
I'm still no closer to understanding what motivates you ultra freaks.
12 ultra wins and four course records over just a few years? Very impressive indeed!
Hopefully your December 5th indoor race is the same one I'm planning to run? Mine is a 1500 though, not a mile. I've never raced indoors before and will be training 100% outdoors, so it should be interesting!
I want to be Helen when I grow up. Or grow down. She's 10 years younger.
Glad I was mentioned in the article. Not sure why I'm admitting this, but I'm the guy that got chicked by Helen at Lean Horse. It is so on.....
JK, Happy for Helen and glad to see the article, thanks for posting.
Very cool! What a great article. Thanks for sharing, Steve!
For once I agree wtih Glaven :). It was really well-written. But much more importantly - it's true!! Yay Helen!
Colin, I'm sure it's the same one (Bethel), but I can't find any info on the web. Director Gary Westlund isn't answering.
@G: It's spelled Eeyore. And no one can explain why I put my 60% fast-twitch muscle fibers, nervous stomach, depressive nature and fragile bones and ligaments through agony for so long.
Cool, I hope to see you there! FYI, the registration form has some info about the race & series; there's also a bit more here.
Colin, I'm thinking $5 a minute is too steep for a race; I may aim for something else.
@SG - Shows what you know. I was trying to spell "Eyesore". Somehow the "es' got deleted. I suspect the work of a n*ta@ck-fondling f*cktard, but can't prove it.
Well if you preregister you'd have to run pretty fast for it to be $5 per minute, but I agree $19 does seem pricey ...
Sorry that I won't see you this time; maybe at the Meet of Miles in January?
