Not a race report

I'm too ill today to say much about yesterday's race. I lost 15 pounds to illness in the weeks before the race, but went in with high hopes. I started well, but developed diarrhea an hour into the race and had to make "nature calls" every 20 minutes until I called it a day at about 12 miles and jogged to the turn-around, where I dropped out.

Everything I eat today passes through me in about 2 hours, just as it did before - and during - the race.

I don't foresee how I can stay healthy enough to train, let alone race from here on. I'm done.

Steve, it was great to carpool and race with you. I'm so sorry it didn't work out better for you, and I hope your illness leaves soon. Take care!

So sorry it was a tough day for you, even without the crazy trail conditions. I thought about doing Chippewa, but judging from the photos, looks like I'd have been grossly violating the "don't get the cast wet" rules!

Hope you're feeling better and back to running soon. See you at Superior?

Now might be the time to consider antibiotics :0). I am really sorry it didn't go well. Your symptoms sound a little like Clostridium Difficile (especially if you have taken antibiotics recently) - which should be treated with Metronidazole. But you would need a stool sample to confirm that. Go to a doctor and get it checked (demand they do a stool sample)- 15 lbs of weight loss is way too much. Drink some gatorade in the meantime.

Get to the Doctor - Get checked - Get treated - Get healthy ...

See a problem - solve a problem - continue with the journey ... Sounds like 100 mile racing.

Hang in there and focus on positive thoughts and a return to health. You are still in fantastic shape, when you get better there will be other races for you to attempt - You still have a lot left in the tank!

1st time responding to your blog Steve and wanted to add a couple of thoughts. One is that your other responder is right -15 lbs. is quite a bit to lose and it sure seems like there is some kind of an intestinal issue going on.

2nd is I had a discussion with your sister yesterday at my dad's B-day party and we both pretty much agreed that you're not done at all, AND that there are still more challenges left in your tank!

So try & get some treatment and get your diet straightened out and you'll be back on track towards your next trek through the woods!

Not sure if, or when we'll see you again, but Happy Trails! !

Giving up is not an option. Get your shit in order (literally) and get back to it.

Sick as a dog is no way to race. Get well first. Then you will kick butt.
