When I awake, my whole body aches, but from rehab exercises, not from running. After the first week, I've undone a lot of tendon and ligament problems [it'll take 6-8 weeks to heal yet] and am now working on muscle problems, gone from feet to calves and thighs. I really had no idea I was having problems with tensor fasciae latae (iliotibial band/hip flexor) or piriformis until I cut down the pain of other parts for it to become noticeable!
Once I get rid of the morning stiffness, though, I feel 10 years younger, so I must be doing something right.
And even if running is a long way off, there's a reason to start moving. It turns out I'm not alone in my hill (can't call it mountain) climbing ambitions. There's 18 peaks in Minnesota over 2000 feet high with 300 feet of prominence that I want to climb and 55 total peaks with 300 feet prominence. There's a guy who's done 36 of the 55 already! Fortunately, he's only done 5 of the big 18 and none of the harder ones. It looks like there are as many as 8 that no one's claimed yet. Another guy's done 5 of the big 18, including one hard one.
I'd hoped to knock off one of the easy ones this week, but between rain and the expected heat this weekend (and my feeling pretty beat-up and wheezing a bit), it's not looking good.

So cool that you have a fun challenge ahead of you! I keep looking at open water races I want to enter - am really looking forward to some new adventures.
