2nd (and probably last) time I mention FB

So... after a week on Facebook, I've made a few discoveries. First, what people think of it and how they use it are almost completely age-related. Second, looking up old girlfriends shows just why things didn't work out; one's friends consist entirely of family members and co-workers and she lists 1960's musicals as her favorite films and I've never heard of any of her favorite books - okay, she was (and is) pretty, but she must've had something else going for her.

The weird thing is that two people keep getting suggested as friends. One (skipping last name to avoid unwanted searches) is Katie, a national-class runner who lives in this area and works at a local running store; we have 7 mutual friends:
The problem is that we've met and I have not been able to manage a conversation of more than one sentence with her. Not really much in common.

The other is Joyce, another good local runner:
She actually hates me. I don't know why, but she probably has good reason. We have only one mutual friend. There must be 1000 people that fit the category of one mutual friend, yet she's the one that keeps getting suggested.

Then it came to me - somehow Facebook knows my weakness for redheads! Here's the author of the last cookbook I bought:

Wonder if she's on Facebook...

Doesn't "La Russa" mean "The Redhead"?

No wonder you love him.

it is not beyond the realm of possibility that facebook knows on your penchant for redheads. it is eerily penetrating in its knowledge acquisition.
there is a new feature on gmail which is bound to cause grief - when you address an e-mail to someone, gmail immediately suggests other people who you might wish to include on the e-mail. TROUBLE waiting to happen! bah! technology. i make it for a living but ... sometimes i not-so-secretly think we'd all be better off with pen and paper. No! opencil and paper. No! charcoal and tree bark! actually screw it, communication is overrated.

I love Facebook. Just looking at recent pictures of old acquaintances makes me feel that I've aged quite well :-)
