I Go Book Readie Readie

I'm a little too busy to get to the 5K training posts, but I have time for some other stuff.

According to my stats page, the posts that get the most traffic are the "Why Men Run Faster Than Women" and "100 Mile Training Schedule." I felt guilty enough about people finding the schedule that I had to update it a bit. Every week, someone looks up the photo of a bithorax fruit fly I posted; I had just learned how to upload images that day and there was no other reason I posted it - I should delete it, but it helps my stats. Recently, people have been searching the movie lists; someone having a cavewoman filmfest discovered the mother lode on this blog and keeps returning (or dozens of people are watching cavewomen movies for Halloween, but I doubt it). Also, people have been checking out my reading lists.

I've been doing as little reading as running lately. I'd do a book review post, but I've been reading mostly poetry and I believe more people write poetry than read it, so there'd be little interest. Lately, I've been reading Hugh MacDiarmid (ugh), Joseph Brodsky (a few good poems), Rudyard Kipling (okay, if in the mood), D.H. Lawrence and Robert Graves; haven't read enough of the last two to comment.

I also read Keith Richards' autobiography. My favorite bit was that he said that he's always secretly wanted to be a librarian! The jokes just write themselves...

obligatory weather commentary

If you read running blogs from Minnesota, you'll be reading about wind. We had a record low pressure (955.20 millibars), about the same as the center of a level 2 or 3 hurricane. That gives me an excuse to add video of one of my all-time favorite songs:

If you can live somehow in Minnesota
When others moved to states that have a Spring;
If you can trust your sad life to a boat a
Saner person wouldn't think of getting in;
If hurricanes and gales winds don't make you run
Like some Cheesehead p*ssy (hello, Dr. Nic!)
If this and more is your idea of fun
Like running miles and miles until you're sick:

Then and ONLY THEN can you Truly be Steve Quick

Nice, G. There's a blog on my 'roll called "The Unforgiving Minute" and I didn't get the reference for a long time! Kipling still resonates for some.

methinks you shouldn't be running in that wind! ;) it'd probably be like a treadmill workout or even push you backwards... that wouldn't be fun.

i can't say i'm a huge fan of poetry, but i did just try reading the facebook effect... didn't finish before i needed to return it to the library, ah well!
