Alex Chilton has died. I have to go back to the death of John Lennon to think of a musician's death that's had as big of an effect on me. There's plenty of great tributes out there and if you aren't a big fan of Big Star or the Box Tops, well, there's something missing in your soul. Here's two local bands who were influenced:
And the man himself. Hello Wisconsin!!!

Nice selections
Yeah, but mine ... uh ... lasts longer? Doesn't involve a three-way? Came first?
No, wait, not that last one ...
Look again, my friend.
Now MINE's bigger.
Well, I made my point. The youtube video is back to normal size now. Detumescent, as it were.
Hey, Steve, I dunno how it is with you today, but the blogs I normally read? Nobody's posting. A-and nobody (other than you) is reading MY posts.
Do you suppose something happened and we're the only two bloggers left on earth?
I've fantasized about something like this happening, but in my fantasy, the other blogger left with me was more like joyRuN than you.
Don't bother asking. I won't repopulate the blogosphere with you. There isn't enough beer on the planet to give me beer goggles that blurry.
Nothing personal.
O for god's sake. My word verification is um ... "bilical".
So sad about Alex Chilton. Loved the Box Tops and Big Star. Just had to watch The Letter video on You Tube.
I have to curse you for mentioning The Voynich Manuscript. Man did I waste my time today figuring out what kind of a language that was (and I assure you it is NOT a language, but some sort of code, and I have many reasons why I think this, but have to stop wasting my time!). It must have been like you and the mystery of Anton Krupika's shorts.
Wow, only 59...that is so sad. What a musician.
Love those songs by the Replacements and the Jayhawks, too.
Yes, sad to lose a great artist like that at only 59.
Great video posting, btw. I'm adding a few songs in memorium to the iPod for my 20-miler this afternoon.
Have a great weekend
