Tilting at Windmills (putting the Quick in Quixotic)

Okay, enough whining. I've got my shoes on and I can walk on tiptoe. I'm signed up for the Sour Grapes Half-Marathon Saturday and I'm going. I may even run.

The positives of FANS: I set a personal best. I beat Ed Rousseau and Les Martisko (yes, they spot me a couple of decades). I didn't quit (Pierre Ostor quit at 50 miles, Hans Bern Bauer...who planned on running 130+...quit, then cheered me on). I did nothing fatal. I learned a lot.

Only a dozen weeks to get ready for Superior Sawtooth 100.

Nice job on your PR on a very tough day. Happy to hear your condition is improving...so is mine, albeit slowly.

Steve, I know almost nothing about you. For all I know, you may be exaggerating greatly.

But, if you're not exaggerating, you gotta give that ankle a break. No physician, orthopod, physiatrist or anyone else, can tell you with any certainty that there is no "long term damage".

You have to take a break. You must be compensating ridiculously when you run on a fractured ankle so it's only a matter of time before something else gives.

Take a week off to save a year, you know...

Steve,
This is going to sound strange, but I had a dream that I met you (after I read the blog post before this) and you were in a lot of pain... I hope you are okay! Of course, why would my dream about you mean anything?

My whole life I've had people tellig me to take breaks from running (I'm a recovering OCD runner, as you so acurately described in your previous post), so I know how it feels to have people tell you how and when to run when they don't really know you. If these runs (or your injury) are your windmills, so be it. Enjoy the fight and good luck.
Or listen to my husband :) (above).
