Toast
I can barely do 3 miles in half an hour, yet I plan to do the 50K tomorrow - driving up the morning of the race. Those who've been reading this a while, remember the Mr. January post? I have some good runs in January, a good race in April and am toast by May. Well, I ran a 50 mile hill run in January in under 9 hours, won the Trail Mix in April and can barely move now that it's May.
Shop girls
For a guy who never shops, I was in several stores yesterday. Stopped by TC Running Co. to pick up a few things and talked with Kurt Decker; for those who know my weakness for redheads, yes Katie was working and no, she isn't into slow, middle-aged guys with nothing going for them. Bought groceries and the cashier asked where my mother was; she hadn't noticed that I stopped bringing her with me when she died two years ago - it's very weird having to console people you barely know about things that don't really concern them and which seem like ancient history. Had a junk food craving (before a race, anything goes), so stopped at a convenience store and schmoozed with my favorite teenage trailer park goth; the next book in the "Dusk" series is coming out soon. Went to the big box hardware store and bought a chainsaw, so I'm prepared for the Superior Trail.
Lost Jokes
I've been waiting for someone to ask about my latest reading list. It's hard to tell if anyone gets the joke.
One of my favorite things to do is to ask people to tell me the punch line of their favorite joke. Not the whole, joke, just the punch line. Mine's a visual joke, so it doesn't work in writing: "When we shone the light on him, he went like THIS."
So, what's yours?

Hey, I resemble that remark! ("I can barely do 3 miles in half an hour, yet I plan to do the 50K tomorrow")
Enjoy the trip - both the drive and the run!!
Saw you finish today at Lutsen. Looked good, though it appeared your ankle was bugging you.
I am very impressed that you ran that course with a bum ankle!
...the mathematician looked at the physicist and the engineer and said "it's so easy. I just think of the Nth dimension and N=9"
