I hate to admit this, but I only recognize a few of those :( Now I feel old. And uncool. And slow :)

I love your taste in music.

SLG, it's time for your list! There were a lot of songs that came out late last year, like "We Are Young" by Fun, that were big this year and some just coming out now that might've made the list if they'd only been around in August.

Wow, some great music there (none of which I'm aware of having heard before other than "Ho Hey")! Gotta admit that I was pleasantly surprised -- I didn't figure your choices would be accessible to somebody of my limited taste! Most of what I listen to these days is selected by my seven-year-old (which currently consists of the Christmas station on the radio - ugh!).

Looks like a few of your songs have been out there for years (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-wodKgZVw4M and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gUjMX3vLRA0); makes me wonder what other great songs are out there that haven't yet been "discovered"!

Colin, it's common for artists to kick around a song for a while before putting it on an album. There's one out now that's been played in concert but not on album for 20 years!

I'm feeling a little guilty as a former punk for such laidback choices.

Steve, I have had a year of too little time to research new music and this has brought me deep sadness. I simply don't have enough material to make a list this year. It will use newborn + 4 year old + 2 stepkids as my (pathetic) excuse. Your songs are getting me in the mood to get back to my old hobby. I am so glad you included Video Games - sure most everyone knows it by now, but it is a modern masterpiece!

86 hits so far from the UltraRunners Podcast for this list! Maybe I should have listed songs you can run to...
