I actually had a good time at the race (Julie and Scott made the power lines go by in an eyeblink). That said, races are reality checks and this race was a slap in the face.

I've got a whole Crazy Horse mania going on right now for Lean Horse. Crazy Horse would've hated the monument to him on the course, hated the smoothed road and hated the intruders who use the place and leave it like locusts. I would've like Crazy Horse. I hope I like Lean Horse.SteveQhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16943650844671498074noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2796785757974247915.post-44322147437953785312009-07-28T10:08:13.428-05:002009-07-28T10:08:13.428-05:00Hey Steve, Matt thinks you're smiling in the p...Hey Steve, Matt thinks you're smiling in the picture I took of you. Strange how it seems like we knew each other so well without ever actually meeting.

I'm just like you: I could never start a race thinking "I will just flow gently like a stream." It is the fight that makes these races fun. We all know you'll be back. There is no reason you can't run next year's race in 10 hours. And I hope I'm there to see it.sea legs girlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14782712411873234071noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2796785757974247915.post-34612564741375052442009-07-27T15:22:38.263-05:002009-07-27T15:22:38.263-05:00As for your last paragraph, I would think there is...As for your last paragraph, I would think there is a third option between "call it quits or get angry enough to fight back." Why not that Taoist approach you mentioned early on. Enjoy the path set before you and "go with the flow."

Fast times or slow times; difficult day or easy; I always try to enjoy just doing what I do.Carl Gammonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07120268644846137519noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2796785757974247915.post-34901783491705560242009-07-27T12:49:46.420-05:002009-07-27T12:49:46.420-05:00Umm... That article came to mind when I read about your life and times in your bedroom. At least you share that not only with a much young John Force, but also Brian Wilson who penned the following Beach Boys favorite that I used in the "Force" review:

"My heart kept hearing The Beach Boy’s classic song of loneliness, “In My Room,” when reading John Force’s childhood home life and background while, on the very same pages, taking in the sumptuous photography of his later drag racing verve. These lyrics . . .

Do my dreaming
And my scheming
Lie a-wake and pray

Do my crying
And my sighing
Laugh at yester-day

will have new meaning to you once you visit John’s most unique bedroom.

(I think they would have new meaning if we visited YOUR bedroom)

Since you slept none the night before the event ("Lie a-wake and pray")just like the song, I would suggest you did well.

At least at Superior 50km among others, when you head back in you get a downhill. That uphill at Voyageur can cause one to "do my crying and my sighing" also.

Phillip Gary Smithphillip garyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04533377127734277639noreply@blogger.com
